Estimates only. This calculator provides estimates for educational purposes only, using statewide average 2026 benchmark premiums from public rate data, the 2025 federal poverty guidelines, and the 2026 premium tax credit rules. Results are not a determination of eligibility, enrollment, premium-tax-credit amount, Medicaid eligibility, or actual plan pricing. Final eligibility, subsidy amounts, premiums, and plan availability are determined by the applicable Health Insurance Marketplace, insurance carrier, or government agency. Smooth Health Solutions is not affiliated with or endorsed by HealthCare.gov, CMS, HHS, or KFF.

How this calculator works

Your subsidy is set by federal formula: the government caps what you pay for the benchmark silver plan (the second-cheapest silver plan where you live) at a percentage of your income — between roughly 2% and 10% in 2026, depending on where your household lands against the federal poverty level. Your premium tax credit is the difference between the benchmark's full price and that capped amount, and you can spend it on any metal tier.

This tool runs that exact math using your state's average 2026 benchmark premium from public rate filings, the federal age-rating curve, the 2025 poverty guidelines, and your state's Medicaid rules. The one thing it can't know is your county's exact plan lineup — that's the free part I do by hand.

How accurate is this estimate?

It applies the real federal rules — 2025 federal poverty guidelines, the 2026 premium tax credit percentage table, the federal age-rating curve, and your state's average 2026 benchmark premium from public rate data. Because it uses statewide averages, your county's exact premiums will differ. Treat it as a realistic estimate, not a quote; a licensed agent can pull your exact county rates for free.

Do I have to give my phone number to see my estimate?

No. The estimate appears instantly with no contact information required. If you want exact plan-by-plan pricing for your county afterward, you can call or request a free comparison — that part is optional.

Are ACA subsidies still available in 2026?

Yes. The enhanced pandemic-era subsidies expired December 31, 2025, but the original ACA premium tax credits remain for households earning between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. This calculator uses the 2026 rules that are actually in effect.

What is the benchmark silver plan?

The second-lowest-cost silver plan available where you live. Federal subsidies are calculated against its price: your credit equals the benchmark premium minus the share of income the law expects you to contribute. You can apply that credit to any metal tier, not just silver.
